Secret Space Plane X37B Spotted by 2 Amaeture Astronomers
Posted by Osifuentes on 2010/6/4 23:42:42 (184 reads)

Hello from Florida:
Remember that Delta 4 Delta 4 Rocket Launch that blasted off from Cape Canaveral Fl. in Mid April this year? Well .. The Secret Space Plane is orbiting the Earth at this very moment. And two Amateur Astronomers spotted the Vessel. For those in the States you can get Fly-By information by using web-site www.spaceweather.com for those in the UK you can use www.Heavens-Above.com
Here\'s a short story from Space Weather.com
X-37B

BRIGHTNESS: 2 (like stars in the Big Dipper)

The X-37B is a unmanned space plane, similar to the space shuttle, launched from Cape Canaveral on April 22, 2010, \" Star Hunters Birthday\" on a secret mission for the US Air Force. Since then it has been operating in low Earth orbit. On May 20th, two amateur satellite watchers independently spotted a previously unknown object. It was determined that they had found the X-37B. During high elevation passes, the secret shuttle shines like a star of magnitude 2.5, similar to the stars of the Big Dipper. This means it is easily visible from rural sites, and a bit of a challenge from urban areas.

Once the Military Space Plane has completed it\'s test flight, It is suppose to re-enter Earths Atmosphere and land Boeings Picture below

Star light, Star bright June 2010

“Star light, Star bright...
the first star you see at night is still Venus in the western sky in Gemini, the Twins.

June 1st after sunset watch for Venus, Mars and Saturn in a line from west to east—this 70degree span of planets decreases to 40degrees by June 30th

The morning star in June is Jupiter. Also look for Mercury in the morning of June 10th 8degrees below the crescent Moon.

History in the making! Jupiter loses a Strip!
Posted by Osifuentes on 2010/5/12 17:01:58 (361 reads)

Jupiter is well known for having two dark bands known as the Northern and Southern Equatorial Bands, well One band is missing! This is an excellent reason to get up early to view Jupiter this way. The Big Red Spot Is still visible, and looks awesome on it's own without the stripe. Check out the URL below

The Dark Sky Festival in Harmony was awesome! BAS, and 2 other Astronomy clubs were present I emailed the information and a few pictures to Astronomers without Borders, to Celebrate (GAM) Global Astronomy Month. They in turn created a URL address... see below.
During the Star Party on the 17th of April, The skies were overcast, we still had a great time attending and breaking the record for the Largest Astronomy Class at one time, with over 500 persons, The Guiness Book of World Records will be reviewing and updating the book in the near future. Over 6,000 persons this year. Please click the URL below for more information
