| Here I am standing near the summit of Haleakala, with the Maui observatory complex behind me on the next hill to the south. The 3.5m Air Force telescope is to my left, and the two University of Hawaii observatories are to my right. The temperature was about 50 degrees at around 1030AM, with brisk breezes from the north gusting to 20 mph or more. |

| We went to Maui Dec. 4-12 for my older son's wedding, and did many memorable activities around the island. One was getting up at 2:30AM and driving up to the 10023' Haleakala summit before twilight to look at stars, then watch the sunrise. Here's a 30 second shot of the Southern Cross rising in the southeast over the west flank of Mauna Loa on the Big Island. Beta Centauri is also visible just above the horizon, and you can see Omega Centauri almost directly above the Mauna Loa summit, near the top of the photo. The latitude there was about 20 degrees, but the summit was only a little warmer than that! |

If your Large Dob, Newt. or Truss dob telescope was in your auto, and you were going to your favorite observing site, more than likely you ran over a few Pot holes along the way, for that reason, you want to make sure your mirrors in your scope are aligned before you start to Stargaze. Orion makes a great Laser collimator model # 5681 for your scope and better yet, you can align the mirrors by yourself. www.OrionTelescopes.com |

We hold several star parties at the Calypso Cafe during the year, it's always fun to share the night sky with the public. We usually have a pretty good crowd.

| The school events are always fun, even though Daylight Saving time is not. Although, the moon was already up for the event. |
